Electronic Bridges
If the electrical components are arranged in the form a bridge or ring structure, then such electrical circuit is called a bridge. In general, bridge forms a loop with a set of four branches or arms. Each branch contains one or two electrical components.
Types of Bridges
The two Types of bridges are
1. D.C Bridges
2. A.C Bridges
The D.C bridges are used to measure the unknown resistance while the A.C bridges are used to measure the impedances consisting capacitance and inductances. The D.C bridges use the D.C voltages as the excitation voltage and the A.C bridges use the alternating voltage as the excitation voltage.
AC Bridges:
The bridge uses for measuring the value of unknown resistance, inductance and capacitance, is known as the AC Bridge.
AC bridges operate with only AC signal.

Used for the measurement of unknown capacitance. |
|
Used to determine the unknown resistance and inductance values. |
|
Used for the measurement of self-inductance of the electrical circuit. |
|
Used to measure the unknown resistance & inductance of coils with high Q-factor. |
|
Used to measure the self-inductance of the coil. |
|
Used for measuring an unknown value of capacitance and its dissipation factor. |

Used for determining the
value of unknown frequency. |
DC Bridges:
DC bridges which can be operated with only DC voltage signal. DC bridges are used for measuring the value of unknown resistance, which is present in the bridge.
Types of DC Bridges:
- Wheatstone Bridge:
The Wheatstone Bridge is used for measuring the very low resistance values precisely.
- Kelvin Bridge:
The Kelvin Bridge is used for measuring the unknown resistances having a value less than 1Ω. It is the modification of the Wheatstone Bridge.
